How does winter affect your skin?

Winter weather can be harsh on our skin. Low temperatures and dry air can cause dehydration, which leads to flaky patches, dullness, and tightness. Dry air also causes us to lose moisture through our pores without realizing it. This makes it important to moisturize regularly during the colder months to keep our skin hydrated so it doesn't become dry and flaky. The key is finding a moisturizer that works well with your skin type and applying products in the right order.

There are 2 ways for your skin to obtain "moisture."

1) Add water to the skin via lotions, creams, or gels.

2) Block water loss with the use of oils, butters, waxes, etc.

The best results can be achieved by doing both. The SECRET is in using the right natural ingredients and applying them in the correct sequence. Keep in mind that using an occlusive blocker, such as an oil, butter or wax, to prevent moisture loss, can dry out the skin over time. The right sequence is to use a water-based moisturizer first, and then apply a coat with the second product to protect from water loss.

This is a great recipe to try if you want to make your moisturizing face cream at home. It’s simple and easy to make, and it will give you the same results as many expensive store-bought products.

How to Make a Butter Face Cream for Dry, Mature Skin!

All you need is:

  • A double boiler (or a setup that allows you to heat the oil without burning it).
  • ½ tablespoon of beeswax
  • ½ cup of natural vegetable oil (avocado, olive, coconut)
  • Essential oil to add scent (optional)

Use a double boiler to heat the oil without burning it. Add the beeswax and stir until blended. Add 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil to add scent and stir until completely blended, and remove from the heat source. As it cools the mixture becomes a cream, naturally.

You can use this as is or put it in a glass jar for easy storage.

This mixture will be softer than many store-bought lotions and will make your skin feel great!
