5 Steps to Manage Dry Skin During Winter

Dry Skin Blog

Our skin has natural barriers that protect us from the environment. Over time and with the change of seasons, these barriers may weaken or be compromised, resulting in dry skin. With the change of seasons, our skin, the largest of our body’s organs, may struggle to manage environmental changes, as well as changes in our exposure to natural light and diet. The swings created by holiday gatherings must also be balanced. Our body does so much work while we hop our way through the holidays.

Here are 5 Tips to Help you Manage Dry Skin During the Winter Season:

TIP #1 - SWITCH UP YOUR CLEANSER

For your daily cleaning routine, switch your cleanser to a creamier, oil based cleanser, such as this Calming Cream Cleanser, with no irritating surfactants, and a more nourishing creamy feel that is provided by a higher amount of humectants and emollients that provide more moisture than gel-based foaming cleansers.

TIP #2 - SWAP CLAY MASQUES FOR MOISTURIZING MASQUES

Take a break from clay-based masks and switch to a hydrating treatment at least once a week. Use a Hydrating Mask. The humectants in this product invite moisture from the air into the skin. Using a Hydrating Mask more frequently will keep your skin feeling fresh. You cannot do too much moisturizing. Go for a minimum of one treatment per week for a hydrating surge.

TIP #3 - SWAP YOUR ASTRINGENT TONER FOR A MOISTURIZING ONE

Reduce the use of astringent toner. Switch to a more nourishing Soothing Toner, made of natural ingredients and with balanced pH, that will reduce dryness and irritation and keep your skin barrier more protected during colder times.

TIP #4 - MOISTURIZE DAILY WITH WATER BASED HYDRATION

Use an extra hydrating, WATER BASED moisturizer daily. Infused with water-loving ingredients and humectants (glycerin and hyaluronic acid), this is a must have and must do - daily for your skin to absorb needed moisture. For extra hydration, dab water onto skin and let the skin naturally begin absorbing the moisture. Keeping that moisture on the skin, cover with humectant product like the Hydrating Serum to add more water-loving moisture to dry, parched skin. Also, a perfect addition for those looking for oil-free hydration.

TIP #5 - APPLY AN OCCLUSIVE MOISTURIZER TO REDUCE MOISTURE LOSS

After hydrating with a water based serum, apply a creamy moisturizer, like our occlusive Intense Hydration Moisturizing Cream and follow with an application of MELT Barrier Balm for added protection. The butters, waxes and oils help to add nourishment and moisturization to skin as they help block and reduce moisture loss.

Whatever you do to take care of your skin this Winter season, our Hydrating Products are sure to bring much welcome moisture to your skin care routine.
